Village High School offers a variety of counseling activities that support student success. We provide assistance with the development of an individual academic plan, frequent credit checks, college admissions counseling, career preparation and post-secondary planning, and student portfolio maintenance. In 2003-2004 there were only two student dropouts reported compared to 2002-2003 when there were three student dropouts.

Counseling activities focus on grief and loss, anger and conflict management, drug and alcohol
interventions, crisis management, smoking cessation classes, Ropes course, and career/health
seminars. Village also provides support for parents of young adults, and our staff is available for individual parent-teacher-student conferences upon request.

Portia Bell Hume Behavioral Health and Training Center

As part of the counseling program at Village High School, students have the opportunity to participate in individual and/or group counseling services provided by the Portia Bell Hume Behavioral Health and Training Center (aka The Hume Center). Topics that may be discussed in counseling sessions include relationships, motivation, conflict resolution, overcoming obstacles, facing challenges, social support and making positive decisions.
