Horizon students complete the courses needed for high school graduation. High academic standards are expected. Students receive support for college preparatory courses and guidance about how to apply to college and obtain financial aid. Some of our graduates receive scholarships and many have a history of success in college.

Counseling, parenting and prenatal classes are vital for our students. At Horizon, staff and students work together to create a safe and supportive learning community in which respect and caring are evident. Students attend weekly support groups to learn how to overcome the challenges of parenting. We meet daily as an entire community to focus on our goals for the day and to check in with each other.

Students at Horizon know that they need t o be prepared for the world of work. Most of our students will graduate and go on to part time college and part time work. These students cannot afford to work for minimum wage. To achieve economic independence within two years of graduation our students attend a daily course in employability skills training through ROP. In this course students learn employer expectations, job search and retention skills, career assessment, and practical life skills. Internships and work site training are available. College application and scholarships are also explored in this course. Field trips to local colleges provide information about options for further study.

Prenatal instruction and parenting classes help our students prepare for birth and to be ready for assuming the responsibility for parenting.

Our childcare center:
We have a childcare center that provides quality care for our students’
children. Its staff members are highly qualified and have many years of experience working with infants and toddlers. Children receive nurturing care that respects each child’s individuality and schedule. Safety is our primary concern. The staff works with parents to promote each child’s development. Quarterly conferences help parents, teachers and childcare providers stay in touch.

Our Mission . . .
At Horizon High School , staff and students work together to establish an environment that promotes academic accomplishment, mutual respect, emotional growth, and economic self-sufficiency.
