Results 2008-09 Season:
Going low in golf is a good thing. The Dons went low on Wednesday, February 25th at Discovery Bay CC and blasted the Liberty Lions 184 to 220
All five scores were under 40 as the team got their
final tune-up before beginning league next week.
Jonny Baxter shot a one under 34 with Kyle Wolfe carding a even 35 to lead the
attack. Justin Shotwell added a 37 with Robbie Garcia and AJ Hebert shooting
39s to round out the scoring.
Braving the elements the golf team took care of business earning 3rd at the Gambetta Invite yesterday
With 50 mile an hour gusts blowing the ball sideways
and pouring rain soaking the players and the greens the AV golf team represented
well with a team score of 414.
Robbie Garcia earned 5th place individually leading the Dons in scoring with
a 77. Jonny Baxter added a fine 79, AJ Hebert had an 84, Justin Shotwell carded
an 85 and Kyle Wolfe rounded out the scoring with an 89
Coming off a very successful tournament on Monday at Lone Tree, the Dons went cold on the greens and dropped a match with San Ramon 202-207.
Jonny Baxter had an excellent round shooting an even par 36 to lead all scorers. Robbie Garcia had a 40, Ian Lommerin added a 43 with AJ Hebert and Justin Shotwell carding 44s.
The course was wet, the greens were sanded, but the boys golf team still performed very well on Tuesday posting their first league win of 2009.
Leading the Dons to victory over Livermore was Jonny Baxter with a low round of 38. Robbie Garcia and Ian Lommerin shot 39s while AJ Hebert came in with a 41. Justin Shotwell rounded out the scoring with a 47. The team is back in action on Thursday as DLS comes to Ruby Hill.
The Amador golf team worked hard Wednesday in practice fine tuning their games at Ruby Hill. It paid off with a season low score of 193 on Thursday beating visiting De La Salle by 12 strokes.
The Dons moved to 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in the EBAL with the win. Led once again by Senior Jonny Baxter who had a great round of one under 35. Sophomore AJ Hebert turned in his best performance of the season, a fine 38. Junior Robbie Garcia had a good round of 39 as senior Ian Lommerin continued his contributions with a 40. Senior Kyle Wolfe and Sophomore Justin Shotwell played well carding 41s.
The Boys' Golf team enters each match looking for improvement not only in score but in quality of play. They found both yesterday vs Granada. They posted their lowest 9 hole total of the season and eliminated mistakes on and around the greens beating Granada 191- 207.
Robbie Garcia ran eight pars together before dropping a birdie on nine for a one under 35 to lead the scoring effort. His round included only 13 putts. AJ Hebert continued his fine play with a 38 while Jonny Baxter and Ian Lommerin contributed 39s. Justin Shotwell had what he termed as an "ugly 40", missing a few short putts to round out the scoring. The Dons are back in action today at the Bridges GC vs Cal.
The Don Linksters kept pace with the other top teams in the EBAL with a win on the always tough Bridges course. Beating Cal 213-218 allowed the team to stay a game back of first place.

The Boys' Golf team has beaten every team in the East Bay in matches and tournaments except one, Monte Vista. They had their chance on Thursday but the putts wouldn't drop and they lost to the Mustangs 199-196.

Robbie Garcia chipped in with a 40. Sophomore Justin Shotwell started slowly
but went even par over the last 6 holes for a 41, making a long birdie putt
on nine to add to the excitement of the match. The final score was posted by
Sophomore AJ Hebert who carded a 44.
The Dons travel to Castlewood CC next Tuesday to finish the first half vs FHS.

Monday at Discovery Bay CC the wind blew and the chill factor dropped as the Boys' Golf Team won their first local tournament in over 10 years.
Winning the Aiello is always a tough feat. In the field
of 23 schools there were five teams that are currently in first place in their
leagues, six teams that have finished in the top three of section play over
the last few years and three teams that have been to recent Nor-Cal and State
Championships. The Dons had four out of their five players place in the top
15. Led by Senior Kyle Wolf with a 77, followed closely by Senior Jonny Baxter
and Sophomore Justin Shotwell with 78s and Sophomore AJ Hebert with a 79 the
Dons shot a 396, making them the only team to break 400. Junior Robbie Garcia
finshed the scoring for the team with an 84.
The Dons finish the first half of league this afternoon with a match vs FHS
at Castlewood.
The Amador Valley Golf B-team visited Cal High at San Ramon GC Monday afternoon
and came away with their seventh victory of the season. Chris Polis posted Amador's
low score with a 42. Ian Lommerin (45), Kevin Dermody (46), Jeff Cho (47), Lewis
Santos (49), Kevin Calhoun (58), and Cody May (44, exhibition).
The Amador Golf Team traveled to Stevinson Ranch GC on Monday to play in the Atwater Invite. They came away with a 2nd place finish. They have now competed in 3 tournaments and have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish.
Jonny Baxter took 2nd place individually with a 75 on
a day when the wind swirled on every hole. Justin Shotwell added an 81 and took
6th palce, AJ Hebert had an 83 and Robbie Gracia chipped in with an 84.
The B-team also participated and would have taken 4th place overall with a 343
score. They were not an official entry in this tournament. Jeff Cho had an 81
to lead the B-team. Kurt vonTrapp had an 86, Chris Polis had a 96 and Alex Hewitt
had a 100.
Losing to FHS on Tuesday by 3 strokes and beating CAL by 6 on Thursday found the AV golf team in third place.
vs CAL Jonny Baxter led the team with a one under 35.Kyle Wolfe had a fine round
of 38. Justin Shotwell added a 40 while Robbie Garcia and Ian Lommerin carded
41s.
"Just couldn't putt"- call of the day for the Amador Golf team which lost just its first match in the second half of league.
Jonny Baxter and Justin Shotwell shared medalist honors
with very nice one over 35s at Crow Canyon CC. Robbie Garcia and AJ Hebert each
had 39s and Kyle Wolf had a 41.

Playing well in their second tournament of the week the Boys' Golf B-team took first place at San Ramon GC on Wednesday.
Lewis Santos took 2nd place overall with his career best 75. Chris Polis added a fine 81, Ian Lommerin had an 82 and Jeff Cho had an 84 for he Dons.
The last days of March and the beginning of April were witness to a bounty of golf for the Amador Valley "B" team.
The field of battle on the last day of March was at Callippe Golf Course. San Ramon came ready to play and posted a 212 to Amador's 218. Indidvidual scores for the day were Kurt Von Trapp (40), Alex Hewitt (47), Lewis Santos (45), Chris Polis (43), Kevin Calhoun (43), Jack Richardson (51), Colt Stewart (47), Kevin Dermody (42), Cody Mat (44). Wednesday, April 1, Amador travelled to San Ramon Golf Course for the Cal High Tournament. Amador Valley's team were the defending champions at the tournament and the gentlemen of Amador stroked their way to a second championship on April Fools Day. Individual scores were Ian Lommerin (82), Jeff Cho (84), Chris Polis (81) Alex Hewitt (91), Lewis Santos (75), Kevin Calhoun (81), Cody May (87), Colt Stewart (91), Jack Richardson (96), Kevin Dermody (105). The final match for the week and for Amador happened at Wente Golf Course. Amador posted a 229 to 274 win over Livermore. Individual scores for the Amador men were Jeff Cho (52), Alex Hewitt (46), Lewis Santos (44), Kevin Calhoun (43), Cody May (48), Colt Stewart (48), Kevin Dermody (44).
The Dons played well at Ruby Hill CC yesterday as they defeated the Livermore Cowboys again.
Co-Captain Jonny Baxter, headed to UC Davis next Fall, led the attack with a one under 35. Co-Captain Robbie Garcia broke out of a slump with a fine 39. Kyle Wolfe, regional winner of the regional culinary event, shot a 40. Justin Shotwell had a 42 and AJ Hebert rounded out the scoring with a 43. The Dons are now 8 and 4 on the season, 6 and 4 in league leaving them them in 5th place. They travel Monday to the prestigious De La Salle Invitaional at Diablo CC.
Junior Robbie Garcia led the Don's golf team to a fourth place finish yesterday at Diablo CC. Robbie outscored 105 other golfers from around Northern California shooting an even par 71.
Jonny Baxter had a 4 over 75 while Justin Shotwell chipped
in with a 6 over 77. Kyle Wolfe added an 83 to the cause and AJ Hebert shot
an 84 for the 390 total.
It was the toughest tournament field of the year so far, that included five
teams from last year's Nor-Cal finals. The Dons beat 4 of those elite teams
yesterday.
The Linksters once again proved they are tournament tough.

The team resumes EBAL action today at Diablo CC vs De La Salle.
Playing on the same course a day after taking 4th place in the DLS tournament the Boys' golf team struggled on Diablo CC losing to DLS 203- 184
Robbie Garcia led the Dons as he continued his good play with a 38. Jonny Baxter had a 40 while AJ Hebert and Justin Shotwell added 41s, Ian Lommerin rounded out the scoring with a 43.
The Amador Golf Team shot its lowest nine hole total of the season on Tuesday as they hosted the Monte Vista Mustangs. Unfortunately the Mustangs went one shot lower beating the Dons 186-187.
Jonny Baxter once again led the team with a great one
under 35. Ian Lommerin turned in his best score of the year with a 36. Robbie
Garcia added a one over 37, Kurt vonTrapp brought his best of the season 39
and AJ Hebert posted a 40 to round out the scoring.
The Dons finish the regular season on Thursday hosting FHS.
The Dons took to the course at Ruby Hill on Thursday and came away with one of their most impressive wins of the season.
Led by Junior Captain Robbie Garcia's 36 and Senior
Captain Jonny Baxter's 37 they posted a 12 stroke win 194-206 over Foothill.
Fist Pumping senior Ian Lommerin and Sophomore AJ Hebert chipped in a pair of
39s for the Dons as Senior Kyle Wolfe rounded out the scoring with a 43.
The Dons compete on Monday at boundary Oak GC in Walnut Creek in the League
Championship Tournament.
Jonny Baxter and Robbie Garcia shot 75's and will advance as individuals next Monday to NCS at the Meadow Club CC in Ross, CA. Kyle Wolfe had a great round with a 78, Jeff Cho shot a fine 81. AJ Hebert rounded out the effort with an 82. The Dons had nothing less than a fourth place finish in a full field tournament
The team posted their lowest score in an NCS qualifier in program history finishing in 2nd place with a 291. Only problem was that Foothill also finished with a 291. Then came the NCS tie-breaker. Score tied, 6th player tied, number one player's scorecard comparison for hardest hole tied, same card second hardest hole tied, third hardest hole- FHS is going to NCS. Amador stays home. Tough way to finish.
