Alisal, having been recognized and honored as a National Blue Ribbon School (2002) and a Distinguished School (2001-2002, 1994-95, 1988-89), maintains high academic standards and expectations for all students. The partnership efforts of the high quality teaching and support staff and the generous community in providing a wide variety of learning opportunities for students, equals increased academic achievement by all our students. Many teaching strategies and techniques are used to challenge students and to ensure that every student has the opportunity to meet and exceed grade level standards and expectations.

Consistent communication is maintained through our monthly school Bear Facts/the Buzz, classroom newsletters, the Alisal web site, along with School Site Council, PTA meetings and the many committees that include staff and parents during the school year. Alisal parents are kept well informed of the many opportunities that are available to support all students. Grade level standards, expectations, and curriculum are shared with parents during Back to School Night, parent conferences, parent informational meetings and Principal’s Coffees. Alisal utilizes all aspects of the community to support student learning and achievement.

Developing and encouraging ongoing community partnerships provides Alisal students with a link to real life experiences. We encourage our students to get involved in community service projects and give students opportunities to use their skills and knowledge through our Junior Achievement program. Hand-on science experiences and the use of technology as a leaning tool provide students with opportunities for real life application. Students and community members are encouraged to share their talents to help broaden all students’ educational experiences.

Current assessment results indicate that Alisal students perform above the state and national averages in reading , language arts, math, and writing. Each year the core academic content areas are targeted for continued improvement by aligning district curriculum standards and expectations with the best teaching and thinking strategies. Articulation and collaboration across grade levels on a consistent basis has been a key ingredient in building and maintaining challenging and focused programs to ensure success for all students.
