GATE services for children in grades 3-5 is organized as an integrated differentiated learning experience within the regular school day, and may be augmented with other differentiated activities related to the core curriculum.  The district has identified four elements of differentiation:  depth, complexity, novelty, and acceleration.  Students in grades 3-5 are clustered in groups of 3 to 8 in a classroom.  We believe as a district that these structures provide continuous progress and opportunities for peer interaction.

Mrs. Borchers shared examples of differentiation in grades 3-5.

Individual Differentiation Plan (IDP):  The IDP is used with GATE students in grades 3-5.  The IDP is developed by the teacher and student with an opportunity for parent feedback.  The document is used to identify areas of strength and areas of growth.  It is also a tool to communicate the areas in which a child is receiving differentiation.  The IDP is reviewed at the first trimester conference and is updated and sent home with the second and third trimester report card.
