Mrs. Mah and Mrs. Moseley requested funds from the CBET program to provide science backpacks and literacy/math activities for parents of English learners.   Mrs. Mah explained her idea of sending home books, science manipulatives, and simple experiments in a backpack.  These backpacks would be available on a check-out system for parents.  Mrs. Moseley also submitted a request to fund the purchase of Frog Family Game packs.   These packs include interactive games to build literacy and math skills at home.  The goal would be to host a training session for parents at the next ELAC meeting.  Parents would also be required to sign a pledge that they will work on tutoring their child at home.

Mrs. Moseley explained that PUSD is faced with a proposed mid-year reduction of $4.6 million to our revenues on top of the $2.0 million reduction made prior to the start of the year.  Under the governor’s current proposal, that total deficit grows to $8.7 million over the next two years.  Mrs. Moseley explained possible cuts that could be made such as reading specialists and class size reduction in grades K-3.
