Amador Valley Adult &Community Education offers many classes every semester in numerous subject areas. Some of our programs include: English as a Second Language, Career Technical Education, Parent Education, Independent Study, GED, Health and Safety, and Computer Classes. We also have many personal enrichment classes such as Wine Appreciation, Money Management, and Conversational Foreign Languages.

Amador Valley Adult & Community Education is a department of the Pleasanton Unified School District and a proud member of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce. Programs are designed for students 18 years of age or older. Twice a year, a comprehensive course brochure will be available at local schools, the public library, senior center and many other pleasanton locations. If you would like to be sent a copy of our most recent brochure, please contact our office, and we will be happy to mail you one.

Adult Education History:
California Adult Education officially began in 1856. The first recorded class was taught by John Swett in the basement of Old St. Mary’s Church in San Francisco. This was an English Class taught by Mr. Swett for incoming immigrants to California who desperately needed to learn the English language mainly for vocational purposes. John Swett later became the 4th Superintendent of Public Instruction for the state of California.
