PUSD has initiated a Facilites Master Planning Process to identify long-term demographic and educational trends, address current facility conditions, and develop strategies to address these needs in a comprehensive manner.
The District's Facilities Master Plan Committee, consisting of community leaders and district stakeholders, will meet every two weeks for a total of six meetings through the duration of the process. These meetings are open to the public.

The 2012-2013 School Year Calendar has been approved and is now available. Please click here to be directed to the Pleasanton Unified School District student calendar or download the PDF. |
PUSD staff is working to finalize school of residence enrollment counts. Once enrollment availability is determined, staff can consider Open Enrollment requests. Although every effort is made to honor the Open Enrollment requests, it is clear that not all requests will be approved at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
At the middle and high school level, staff will be determining space availability and holding a lottery to determine which requests will be approved. PUSD Regulation 5190 (Page 4 of 11) highlights that enrollment of new students at specific schools is based on specific priorities. The 4th priority is Open Enrollment pupils who have applied during the open enrollment period. At each priority level, as a convenience for families, it is the established practice of the District to consider Open Enrollment requests with when a sibling is continuing at the requested school prior to requests where a sibling does not attend the school.
For the 2012-13 school year, with some schools in our system, the District will not be able to accommodate all requests at the fourth priority. Staff will determine the number of available spaces on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 and, if necessary, hold a lottery to determine placement. Results will be mailed by the end of the day on Friday, April 20, 2012.
At the elementary level, open enrollment requests are not considered until the end of the school year.
The District appreciates your understanding and is committed to the success of each and every student. |
Once again we face an uncertain future with the budget. The Governor’s proposed budget released this month is based on a tax initiative on the November ballot that if not passed, will result in triggers and midyear cuts for the 2012-13 school year. Districts will need to
assess the risk of a midyear cut, make an informed estimate of the potential exposure, and
plan accordingly.
For PUSD, the risk equates to approximately $5.5 million dollars for 2012-13. This is in
addition to ongoing cuts made to PUSD’s budget in the past four years. Due to statutory
timelines, unfortunately we are unable to wait things out until November and hope that the
Governor’s tax initiative passes. As a result, we must once again come up with possible
reductions in addition to a list of already approved cuts.

The Governing Board approved the implementation of Transitional Kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year. This new program will provide a two year, developmentally appropriate curriculum for our youngest students entering school.
- Students born between December 3, 2006 and November 1, 2007 may only register for kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year. Families need to register at their resident school.
- Children born on November 2, 2007 and December 2, 2007 will register for Transitional Kindergarten only.
- Transitional K students should only register with the District Pupil Services Department.
- Families with September and October birthdays MAY request a spot in Transitional Kindergarten.
Placement of these requests (September and October birthdays) will be done on a space availability basis. In the meantime, these families should register for regular kindergarten at their resident school. All information and forms are available on our Pupil Services page. For more information you may contact Pupil Services at 426-4290. |
